I am sitting here at my hotel room in Texas watching this rocket launch of the first American astronauts from American soil in eleven years. How exciting is that?
But there is a dichotomy about today. Just down the road there are also people protesting over the death of an African-American man at the hands of white police officers here in America. That is not either exciting or new. That is a sad but true fact.
I guess I don’t know how I feel about all of this, but you and I are watching two different sets of heroes doing what they do. Yes, they really are heroes.
The news crews that have been arrested are heroes. The protesters are heroes. The police are heroes. The astronauts and support crews are heroes, too.
Today we are watching Americans break barriers and set examples. Both are equally important in their own way and we are watching history in the making. Americans are taking to the skies and taking to the streets.
Today I am watching history being made on both fronts. We all are. Let’s stop for minute and think about this and put it all in perspective. It is all about perspective. Heroes come in every shape and size.
